FTL Labs Corporation

FTL Labs Corporation of Amherst MA., is an engineering and product development company, and manufacturer of the "Playsurface" open-source touch table (see button above). The focus of FTL is to provide transitional technology development for highly marketable technologies emerging in academia and bring new products based on this research to the marketplace.


To transition from the benchtop to the marketplace FTL is expert in instrument integration and design (including 3D printing, metalwork, injection molding, and CNC machining), electronics development (including PCB layout and fabrication, wireless communications, and embedded software), and custom software creation (including applications for smartphone, PC, Mac, Touch Tables, and game consoles).


FTL Labs scientists have collaborated with many universities including Case Western Reserve University, Duke University, MIT, and Tufts University. FTL's current focus is on research being performed in the "Five Colleges" of Massachusetts' Pioneer Valley: University of Massachusetts Amherst, Smith College, Mount Holyoke College, Amherst College, and Hampshire College..


FTL personnel have participated in Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III SBIR programs through NSF, DoD, NASA, and NOAA with good success transitioning SBIR technologies to market. FTL's CTO, Dr. Michael White was awarded by the Navy for his part in a “SBIR Success Story” bringing laser fuel contamination technologies to the nuclear aircraft carrier fleet.
